A templom barokk st\u00edlusban \u00e9p\u00fclt, \u00e9s a nyugati homlokzat\u00e1n m\u00e1r az eredeti tervekben is k\u00e9t torony szerepelt. A tornyokat kezdett\u0151l fogva nem \u00e9p\u00edtett\u00e9k t\u00fal magasra, nehogy h\u00e1bor\u00fa idej\u00e9n az ellens\u00e9ges l\u00f6ved\u00e9kek c\u00e9lpontjaiv\u00e1 v\u00e1ljanak. A Szent Gy\u00f6rgy\u00f6t \u00e1br\u00e1zol\u00f3 f\u0151olt\u00e1rk\u00e9pet 1754-ben a b\u00e9csi m\u0171v\u00e9szeti akad\u00e9mia egykori igazgat\u00f3ja, Michelangelo Unterberger festette, a mell\u00e9kolt\u00e1rok festm\u00e9nyei azonban Johann Nepomuk Sch\u00f6pf b\u00e9csi fest\u0151 alkot\u00e1sai, melyek 1772-ben k\u00e9sz\u00fcltek. A legr\u00e9gebbit 1762-ben Josef Steinstock budai harang\u00f6nt\u0151 mester m\u0171hely\u00e9ben \u00f6nt\u00f6tt\u00e9k. A k\u00f6vetkez\u0151 hatot 1990 ut\u00e1n Kr\u00e4uter p\u00fcsp\u00f6k \u00e9s Msgr. Martin Roos p\u00fcsp\u00f6ki irodaigazgat\u00f3 kezdem\u00e9nyez\u00e9s\u00e9re a hesseni Rincker in Sinn c\u00e9g \u00faj\u00edtotta fel. A templomot Remetei K\u0151szeghy L\u00e1szl\u00f3 csan\u00e1di p\u00fcsp\u00f6k szentelte fel, aki 1804-ben Temesv\u00e1ron megalap\u00edtotta az els\u0151, akkor modernnek sz\u00e1m\u00edt\u00f3 papi szemin\u00e1riumot. A m\u00faltban azonban v\u00e1rparancsnokok \u00e9s nemesek is temetkezhettek ide. \nA sz\u00e9kesegyh\u00e1zon jelent\u0151s fel\u00faj\u00edt\u00e1sokat v\u00e9geztek 1926-ban \u00e9s 1986-ban. K\u00fcls\u0151 fel\u00faj\u00edt\u00e1sra 2003-2005-ben \u00e9s 2011-ben ker\u00fclt sor. A sz\u00e9kesegyh\u00e1z az a templom, ahol a temesv\u00e1ri p\u00fcsp\u00f6k \u00e9s a sz\u00e9kesk\u00e1ptalan tagjai szentmis\u00e9t mutatnak be \u00e9s szentbesz\u00e9det mondanak. A szentmis\u00e9ket magyar, n\u00e9met \u00e9s rom\u00e1n, nyelven v\u00e9gzik. A p\u00fcsp\u00f6k \u00e1ltal bemutatott liturgi\u00e1k mindig tartalmaznak olyan r\u00e9szeket, amelyek latin, bolg\u00e1r, horv\u00e1t, cseh \u00e9s szlov\u00e1k nyelven hangzanak el. Mivel a sz\u00e9kesegyh\u00e1z nem pl\u00e9b\u00e1niatemplom, nincs saj\u00e1t pl\u00e9b\u00e1nosa. The Roman-Catholic Cathedral \u201eSaint George\u201c, also known in Timi\u0219oara as the \u201eDome\u201c, was built at the initiative of Emperor Charles IV. of Habsburg, shortly after the Ottomans have been driven from the Banat region. The project of the cathedral is attributable to Architect Josef Emmanuel Fischer von Erlach, the Director of the Imperial Construction Office of that time, who also led the construction of the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Viena. Alongside Fischer von Erlach, there were also a number of local engineers who brought a considerable contribution to the Cathedral, and among these we mention: Johann Theodor Kostka, Carl Alexander Steinlein and Caspar Dissl. \nThe Dome`s foundation stone was layed out on the 6th<\/sup> of august 1736 by Adalbert von Falkenstein the Bishop of Cenad, in the Feast of the Transfiguration. The project started in 1736, but was interrupted due to the plague pandemic and also the war with the Turks. In 1754 the church had been partially finalized, and on April 30th <\/sup>1754, it was blessed by the Bishop Franz Anton Engl of Wagrain, who for the first time celebrated the Liturgy in the new cathedral, on September 8th<\/sup> 1754.
\nThe Dome was built in baroque style, with two towers facing the west side. Saint Gheorghe was portrayed in the main altar painting by Michael Angelo Unterberger (the Director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Viena) in 1754, while the six lateral baroque altars, which are of great artistic value, were realized by Viennese painter Johann Nepomuk Sch\u00f6pf in 1772.
\nIn 1850, an addition was made to the baroque altars, consisting of two neo-gothic altars: one dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary, and the second one dedicated to Saint Gerard, the first bishop of Cenad and martyr of the faith (\u2020 1046). These additions were done with Alexander Csaj\u00e1ghy as bishop. In 1900 the Altar of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was raised, made entirely of wood in South Tyrol.
\nThe old Organ was replaced with a new one, which was built in 1907-1908 by Carl Leopold Wegenstein of Timi\u015foara. The first tower clock was built by Josef Martin Kidt, a clockmaker from Timi\u015foara. In 1893, a new clock was provided by J. Mannhardt`s firm from M\u00fcnchen, and was later modified by Nikolaus Boling also from Timi\u0219oara. The seven bells are tuned, with the oldest dating from 1763, made by Josef Steinstock, in Buda, while the other six bells were manufactured between 1990 and 2011 by the Rincker Firm from Germany.
\nThe solemn consecration of the Cathedral was celebrated on April 24th<\/sup> 1803, the second day after the Feast of Saint George, the spiritual patron of the Dome. Bishop Ladislaus K\u00f6szeghy of Remete was the consecrator, who also founded the first theological roman-catholic modern seminary of the diocese in 1804 in Timi\u015foara.
\nStarting 1754, the chalices, monstrance, the candle used for \u201eEternal Light\u201c, and the cross for processions were manufactured by Josef Moser, a jeweler from Viena.
\nThe Dome`s crypt serves as eternal resting place for twelve bishops, numerous canons, high ranking Austrian military figures and personalities, with the oldest tomb being the one belonging to the canon Carlo Tazzoli (\u2020 1741).
\nCanonically the Dome is exclusively a cathedral, the church in which the Bishop of Timi\u015foara and members of the Cathedral Chapter preach and celebrate the Holly Mass. The ordinary Liturgies are in Romanian, Hungarian and German language, while the Pontifical Liturgies, celebrated by the bishop, often contain parts in Latin, Bulgarian, Slovak, Croat and Czech language. Not being a parish church, the Dome does not have a parish priest or vicar.
\nIn 2017 important steps were taken in order to secure a restauration project for the Dome (project to be carried out using EU funds), and in 2019 this project was initiated.<\/p>\n
